Many customers require a server, but are not able to justify the costs of a dedicated server, and nor do their needs really merit the vast disk capacities and processor power that come as standard nowadays. Virtual servers provide nearly all the flexibility and power of a dedicated server, at a small fraction of the cost. By dividing a server into a number of virtual servers, we are able provide an amazingly cost-effective complete server package. In fact, virtual server prices start from well under £1 a day.
You get your operating system - a complete Linux server - file system, disk space, RAM allocation, IP address and so on. It's all yours, and you can do what you like with it. You can choose which MTA or web server to run. You can configure BIND (or your chosen DNS software) however you like. We do set up the virtual servers with a comprehensive set of packages get you started, but after that it's all yours.
As well as the cost advantages, a virtual server means you don't need to worry about hardware issues. We do all that for you. So if a disk drive fails, for example, we'll replace it (at no charge to you) and you probably won't even have noticed that anything happened. Hardware upgrades will be performed as required.
For a small monthly fee, you can opt to have a management package with your virtual server, to make your life easier still.
Your virtual server is wholly secure on the machine. You can't see other people's disk space, and they can't see yours. You can't affect the operation of each other's virtual servers. You could even deliberately wreck your own system, and all the others on that machine would continue operating smoothly and without having been affected.
